• Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ with FA20 engine (pre-2020): valve spring recall affected early production. If not yet performed, springs can fracture causing engine damage. Also known for: carbon buildup on intake valves (direct injection only), modest oil consumption at high RPM, and exhaust manifold crack (track use). Verify recall status. Otherwise a reliable and fun engine if driven within its limits.
• Any car with 200k+ km requires extra scrutiny. At this mileage: suspension components are worn (bushings, ball joints, shocks), seals and gaskets are hardened, electrical connectors corrode, and major components approach end-of-life.
