Serious risks

• Turbo failure (oil starvation): Turbo fails due to oil starvation from blocked oil feed pipe or oil quality issues. Whining/smoking turbo needs immediate attention.
• DPF clogging: DPF clogs with short trips. Forced regeneration or replacement needed. Common on city-driven cars.
• Oil leak from rocker cover: Rocker cover gasket leaks oil — common age-related issue. Cheap to fix.
• Timing belt + water pump: Belt every 100,000 km. Water pump should be done at the same time. Interference engine.
• Car is 13 years old — expect age-related wear: rubber seals, bushings, water pump, AC compressor
• Higher mileage (153,927 km) — check for timing system condition, turbo health, and suspension wear

Additional notes

• PSA 1.6 HDi (Ford TDCi) with 130k+ km: turbo failure is the main risk. The turbo on these engines is oil-cooled only (no water cooling) and runs at very high temperatures. Carbon deposits build up and the turbo seals fail, dumping oil into the intake. Turbo replacement costs €800-1,500. ALWAYS check for oil smoke on boost and listen for turbo whine/rattle. Also check DPF condition.
• Diesel car from before 2018 with very low mileage suggests city-only use — DPF is likely clogged or has been removed (illegal). Check DPF status and EGR condition.
• Peugeot 308 diesel dominates BG used market (550+ listings at 150k+, avg 211k km, only €5k). At this mileage: 1.6 BlueHDi DPF is clogged or deleted (check!), injectors leaking, dual mass flywheel shot, and turbo wastegate worn. Many are ex-French fleet with minimal maintenance history.
• 508 diesel automatic (286 listings, avg 215k km, €9k) — Aisin EAT6 auto is generally reliable but at 200k+ needs fluid change (often never done, €400-600). 2.0 BlueHDi injectors and high-pressure fuel pump are wear items at this mileage. Suspension is comfort-oriented but bushings and shocks need replacement.
